Improving Writing Skills

In 2014, Altrusa Anaheim Club members developed “Finding My Voice, Telling My Story.”

In partnership with the Anaheim Public Library, we annually bring a creative writing contest to Anaheim Elementary School District’s 4th grade students at all 23 schools.

Students have the opportunity to self-reflect and use their voices while developing their creative writing skills. A panel of judges consisting of school administrators, parents and representatives from Altrusa and the Anaheim Public Library choose the top essay for each school and include them in an annual zine. The zine is part of the Anaheim Central Library’s collection and featured at the annual Orange County Zine Festival hosted by the Anaheim Public Library.

Pathways of Hope

Pathways of Hope

Altrusa partners with Pathways of Hope to assist with providing food, transitional living, support, and prevention services to the hungry, homeless, and less advantaged. In the past, we have prepared vacated apartments for new residents and created checklists for the apartments to identify repairs and restock. We still shop and purchase items for the apartments, attend their fundraisers, and adopt families for the holidays.

We also provide books, magazines, toys, and art supplies for the residents and their children and collect donations of food and other supplies to help stock the HUB food distribution pantry.
